TinyMCE not working anymore

Post by daboymarky »

This is the problem.
I wanted to update my TinyMCE version with the latest. So I downloaded it from the website. Renamed the old TinyMCE folder to "TinyMCE+". Then uploaded the new version. Then went into the CMS to check if it was working, but it didn't. Then I deleted this version and renamed "TinyMCE+" to "TinyMCE" again. But now it doesn't work anymore.

Somebody knows what i can do now, to make work again?

Sorry, but I don't have experience with CMS Made Simple.

There's your problem.

TinyMCE in the modules directory is not an exact copy of TinyMCE from the product's website.... You need to download and install and update your modules using an actual module from within your Module Manager or directly from the CMSMS Development Forge.

Go to your site admin > module manager > tinyMCE and install/update it there...

Serious question: why is the TinyMCE module not kept up to date with the latest published version (on the tinymce.com site) and why does it have to be some other "special" (read: inferior) version?

microTiny is inept as it can't handle tables or a number of other things. And not everything works well as a div. Even when you do use a DIV it doesn't render properly.

I am considering ditching CMSMS because of the constant frustrations I have with TinyMCE and microTiny. Neither works adequately and there's no other alternative in CMSMS.

You can replace the pure TinyMCE part with last version from TinyMCE.com (series 3.x!!).

And if you make a look to module SVN you will see there's currently some work to get running TinyMCE series 4.x

If you really need this version often it's a good idea to give a donation to module developer. It's every time a good motivation to speed up the work ;).

TinyMCE is the most often used WYSIWYG-editor in cms-systems. Other systems also don't always us the latest version of TinyMCE. The 'special version' has to do with the integration in the CMS.
Perhaps you can share your 'constant frustrations with TinyMCE'?

Actually I have discovered one of the problems is that it doesn't filter out the "Print" styles even when you check the "Screen only" option. So all the "no border" and "hide" styles designed for print affect the TinyMCE display.
Dumb as...

Thanks for all the help. I tried to update/install the tinyMCE (all versions) but I keep on getting the error to update the CMSMS. See attachement. I can't remove the module anymore. Somebody who knows how to fix this again?

Remove it from your modules directory and download a version that is compatible with your CMSMS install. The latest version requires CMS Made Simple 1.10 or newer.

I re-installed it. It's installed correct it says. But i don't see the editor in my text-fields. Someone knows why?

Be sure it is set as the WYSIWYG editor in the Global Settings and in each Admin user's settings.

Did you notice underneath the textarea "Use WYSIWYG editor" and is it checked?

I can't see the option in the drop-down list.

Frontend is just for the Frontend. Is that what you are trying to do?
I thought you were having problems with it in the Backend...

You need the setting called, "Default backend wysiwyg (for new user accounts):"

And, then make sure each Admin user's account settings are set to use the correct wysiwyg
