Form Builder Form Layout - resources to learn how to change?

Post by earcandy »

My appologies for my newbieness.

I am working with Form Builder in CMSMS and have designed a form.

It looks TERRIBLE!

1. There is no line spacing at all - all the fields are just inline one after the other with no space in-between them.

2. The fields are all in list form - is there no way to place some of my fields side by side rather than in a list format?

I have hunted now for two days for documentation or tutorials on how to customize the form layout once all the fields have been setup. I am willing to learn to do this but I cant find any info anywhere.

I totally am willing to learn - but I just cant seem to find the information I need here. Appreciate any help!

I REALLY appreciate the help. However "Create a new stylesheet in the CMSMS Admin and attach it to the HTML template used for the form page. " doesnt really help an inexperienced newbies like myself. I have no idea where to even being as far as creating a stylesheet.

I find it hard to believe I am the only one on this Earth that wants to place fields side by side rather than in list form. Yet I just cannot seem to find any info anywhere except that intended for experienced folks.

Help!

Thank you so much for the link.

However being such a newbie to CMS it just basically tells me to create or modify the stylesheet and I have no idea where to begin - and still am unable to find anything to help me on the net.

My ONLY issue is that I want some of my fields in Formbuilder to be placed side by side - rather than just one on top of the other.

I am actually surprised that this appears so complex to do - where is the made easy part of CMS!

We all started as a newbie.

CMSMS is a very powerful and highly customizable cms. That means you can make a site/page look exactly as you want it to.

That also means you probably need to change the defaults.

If you would have started with the official documentation (http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/) you'd know now how to add a stylesheet.

Also, when installing CMS Made Simple it default comes with a set of sample pages. Those pages are very useful too because they explain much of the possibilities of CMSMS.

Don't give up! Once you've learned the power of this CMS you'll probably love it (plus your customers/editors will love it too).

I did not find the documentation helpful for this particular issue at all. All of the form examples are inline - I have yet to be able to find an example where fields have been placed side by side.

I know if I could just find a similar example I could figure out what I need to do.

For a system that's designed to make things easy I am really surprised how difficult it seems to be to so what should be such a simple and common thing.

I even tried entering a css class for the fields in formbuilder. Doesnt seem to have any effect at all on my forms appearance. There has got to be a way to do this....doesnt there??

The documentation should be useful. If it's not, you probably don't understand the basics of styling (a form). That's not a CMS issue.

If you have attached a stylesheet to the PAGE TEMPLATE of the CONTENT PAGE where the form is displayed you can modify that stylesheet to style your form.

By default, there should also be a stylesheet installed together with Form Builder (you should recognize it by it's name). You can choose to attach that to the page TEMPLATE(s) too. It will probably make your form look some better to start with (if you've chosen the CSS based Form Builder template! NOT the table layout).

I'm not sure if you'll find an example that exactly suits your needs. Because we don't know them.

Note that most sample templates in CMSMS are for general use and can't cope with every possible situation. You can always change the templates and styles to suite your needs. (However, in Form Builder some things are hard coded. But most of the times you can work around that).
