That sounds like a custom built jQuery slider, let me know if you need help with it...

You can combine templates like I did here http://www.implantoloog.com/
Haven't seen one working this way out-of-the-box...
Take a slider in Album or Gallery module as a basis and build in the fancybox pop-up
