Making news module larger?

Using 1.11.9

Is there any way to make the news module larger in size? The way I want my site laid out is the news module taking up the left and middle of the index and pages to not be displayed on the index either with a module or 2 on the right. Right now I am just trying to make the news module take up the space I mentioned and disallow pages to appear on the index itself.

This would be a matter of HTML/CSS...

Make whatever div it is in wider and the news will look bigger...

...That's simple enough. Sorry for such a noob question, I'm not very familiar with CMSMS yet, code-wise, so I didn't know where to look for editing the size of the module. Thanks for your help!
