Hi,
i have a site which is still on 1.6.
what is the best way to upgrade from here - 1 version at a time - or new install?
And if new, I need to keep the same pages and content (for SEO) - ideas?
thank you.
Mike

Re: Really old version
Thanks - i saw that, but my post was - is this the best way to upgrade, 1 by 1, or would a clean install be a better option.

Re: Really old version
Nobody can tell you whether a re-install is worthwhile or not. We don't know anything about what data is in the site, modules you are using, or special configurations you've done etc. So it's best not to guess.
The only thing I can tell you is that an experienced CMSMS professional can usually upgrade a simple site within 30 minutes... and within a couple of hours for a 'complex' site.
That's one reason why we have no troublesome auto-upgrade mechanism. If you have a proper environment (ssh shell access, or at least a decent control panel), and knowledge of basic concepts like permissions, backing up a mysql database, creating and expanding a .tar.gz file, reading instructions and editing config files it really is not that difficult.

Thanks Calguy - from the sounds of it upgrade 1by 1 is the way to go.
