[SOLVED] Sort Company Directory by Field Def (Date)

I'm using the Company Directory 1.19.4

Install ALL OK

I'm trying to sort Golf Day entries by a Field Definition I've called Date.
Current entries to this field are as follows: 12th Sept 2013

When I select the 'Date' field in 'Settings/Preferences/Default sorting in summary mode: The result is

We are sorry, no Sponsors, Competitions & Events matched your criteria.

I've tried various Date formats as above and 12/09/13, 12/09/2013, 12:09:13 just in case.

I know I'm missing something that dispays the Date in a correct format. Can anyone help?

Have you tried to sort on another custom field?

Well they say that great minds think alike....
I wonder how I came to that conclusion as well.

I changed the name of the field 'Fax' to 'SortDate' and then using CSS {display: none} to hide from view.

Then set the Filed sort to that field. It works fine.

The only issue is that the date has to be added numerically and:
Year Month Date i.e. 2013 09 12

It's a little clumsy but works.

If anyone knows a 'smarter' solution, I'd appreciate a look-see
