[solved] News article 404 page not found

Post by douglas1438 »

Seem to be stumbling from one problem to another with my site.

I'm now receiving 404 Not Found errors for all my news articles, I have a variety of default article pages but none work, although summary pages do. I've found various forum posts relating to the same problem but no solution at least not one I understand.

I have pretty URLs enabled, have cleared cache and updated routes.

I have looked at other sites I've created and nothing appears different, URL takes same form. htaccess file the same.

Thank you Rolf.

Had already visited that page and double checked detail pages are active and not renamed.

OK, pretty URL's disabled and news now works again. So I assuming must be .htaccess though haven't had a problem with filesupplied with CMSMS before. Contents of file below:

Code: Select all

# Attempt to override some php settings, these settings may be helpful on some hosts if your
# default configuration does not meet CMS's minimum requirements, and your host
# has given your account appropriate permissions
#php_value upload_max_filesize "10M"
#php_value session_save_path "tmp/cache"

#php_flag magic_quotes_gpc Off
#php_flag register_globals Off
#php_flag session.use_trans_sid Off

# (this is important, so uncomment if your host permit)
#Options -Indexes
#ServerSignature Off

#Options +FollowSymLinks

# To prevent E_STRICT problems with PHP 5.3+ you can uncomment the following lines
# Note: These settings should only be enabled for production sites!
#php_flag display_startup_errors 0
#php_flag display_errors 0
#php_flag html_errors 0
#php_value docref_root 0
#php_value docref_ext 0

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
#
#Sub-dir e.g: /cmsms
RewriteBase /

# 301 Redirect all requests that don't contain a dot or trailing slash to
# include a trailing slash
# but ignore POST requests.
#RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/$
#RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.
#RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} !POST$
#RewriteRule ^(.*) %{REQUEST_URI}/ [R=301,L]

# Rewrites urls in the form of /parent/child/
# but only rewrites if the requested URL is not a file or directory
#
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php?page=$1 [QSA]
</IfModule>

<IfModule mod_header.c>
# Disable ETags
Header unset ETag
FileEtag None
</IfModule>

<IfModule mod_deflate.c>
# Compress css, plaintext, xml, gif, and images in transport.
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/css text/plain text/xml image/gif image/jpeg image/png
</IfModule>

<IfModule mod_expires.c>
<FilesMatch "\.(ico|pdf|flv|jpg|jpeg|png|gif|js|css|swf)$">
# Set expires tags on various files... so that the browser wont attempt to reload them.

You have {metadata} tag in the <head> your HTML template?
Your website is *not* in a subfolder? So not website.com/folder/index.php...

No, no physical folder 'news' in web root, and yes, {metadata} tag in template, site is in root not a sub directory.

OK, have tried various combinations of code. I've removed category tag and now General category works but no others. Any thoughts anyone?

Do you have the server time zone set, is the server in the same time zone as you, are the articles using expiration..?

I don't think it's in the .htaccess as

http://www.compasscommunity.co.uk/index ... ey-results works
and
http://www.compasscommunity.co.uk/index ... ew-website does not. I expect .htaccess to rewrite to those url's.

So it can be in the way cmsms handles routes (I thought the developers call it so) or within the news module.

What dr.css probably refers to is another topic (or on IRC) where there is a problem with expiration (start/end time) and server time zones. But I would expect that that would lead to a maximum 24h problem.
