Sounds suspiciously like hosting permissions to me. Do you have access to your web hosting account and/or technical support from your web host?

First thing you must do is log into your web hosting account and using its File Manager (not cmsms), delete the install directory.

Next, you need to figure out what permissions are needed to upload files to the uploads/images directory. This is something the web host technical support team could/should help you with.

The page content/data can be uploaded OK because they are being stored in the database. Images and files are stored on the web host file system.

Whatever it is now, it was set up by your long-lost developer. You need to change things not only for your own benefit, but to prevent anyone else getting to your files.

Check if there is also an Owner mismatch between CMSMS installed files, and the files you upload.
