Lost al Data with Listit2

Post by henchenm »

Greetings. I developed an employee directory for one of my clients using the Listit2 module. At the time, the search functionality was not working (in v.1.2.1). I went ahead and installed and configured 1.2.1 anyway and my client spent hours entering all of his employees.
This evening I became aware that Listit2 1.2.2 was available and I attempted to upgrade. After upgrading I got a few errors. I went ahead and deleted the Listit2 Module and then reinstalled 1.2.1, thinking that all of my clients data was safe in in the SQL database. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. When I checked the database, it appears as if all of the data that my client entered was gone. Is this normal? Does anybody have any ideas for a way I might be able to retrieve this data?

Thanks in advance!

BTW - I'm running 1.11.1

Un-installing a module usually DOES clean out all of the data that's associated with it. This is known behavior with some applications (including CMSMS) that work with databases as opposed to applications that create and work with 'documents' or other types of files.

You will need to restore your system from backup to retrieve the data. And next time just 'upgrade' the module.

Bummer. I was afraid of that. Guess I learned this lesson the hard way. When you say, "Next time, just upgrade the module" does this mean I can 'upgrade' to an earlier version?

Thanks. I'll probably use FrontEndUsers to create this employee directory actually. My client was frustrated that he could not import users via a spreadsheet.

Thanks

You can't typically 'downgrade' without intimate knowledge of the changes in the database structure and behavior of the module between versions.

Upgrading though just involves either using the ModuleManager to grab the newer version of the module or overwriting the older version of the module with the newer version and running the 'upgrade' routine.
