[SOLVED] Unknown tag "menu"

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

[SOLVED] Unknown tag "menu"

Post by postiffm »

Hi--trying to upgrade to 1.11 and having a terrible time. In the course of upgrading modules, I appear to have lost

a) all my CGBlog posts. Is it the case that if I uninstall and then reinstall CGBlog (to a new version) that it deletes all the posts from the sql db? Some missing dependencies and upgrades caused me to do that.

==>Apparently uninstalling the module deletes the data too. Ouch. I restored it from backup.

b) a menu template I had added (called section_expand). I may have done a similar uninstall/reinstall with MenuManager because I was not able to see it in the Layout menu...I do see Rheolwr y ddewislen.

==>Ditto.

c) the normal look of CMS Made Simple when logging in and accessing pages, etc. See attachment for an example of how the login screen looks now. It's like the style sheets are gone or something.

==> A small number of menu items were in Dutch or some such language. I had to navigate around in the hobbled CMS pages and find that the language was "No Default Selected" and change it to English. I had to do this in a couple of places. I also had to explicitly tell it in two places I wanted the OneEleven theme for the admin pages. Once I did those things, things started to look 'normal.'

d) My collapsible menu.

Syntax Error in template "tpl_body:4" on line 19 "{menu template="section_expand"}" unknown tag "menu"

What causes this? I've cleared the cache...

You may have to explain your upgrade process a little more fully so we can understand what happened, step by step if you could...

Thanks, Good Doctor. At this point it will be impossible to take you through all the steps I did to get as far as I have. Basically, I followed the 8-step outline in the doc/UPGRADE.txt file. If we could focus on the last point that is still broken, that would be most helpful.

But...in the interest of maybe helping someone down the line, I could mention one major problem I had in the installation. The verification of the files failed miserably--multiple times. Running a verify on my install against cmsmadesimple-1.11-english-checksum.dat reported 176 errors. Even when I repeated the upload multiple times. There appeared to be something wrong with the verification process so I abandoned it and went on. I've never had a problem uploading files bit-perfect to my host.

[SOLVED] Unknown tag "menu"

Post by postiffm »

I backed up the custom menu template I had created; uninstalled menu manager; reinstalled; recreated my section_expand template (since it gets deleted with you uninstall the menu manager module). Then the website "sort of" started working again. The menu does not collapse like it used to in 1.10.3. At least the error is gone now.

I have upgraded several sites to 1.11 (and now 1.11.1) on several platforms. I always run the system verification, and I never encountered any problems with that.

May I need some remedial help...

I just upgraded to 1.11.1. 39 files uploaded successfully. Went to Site Admin | System Verification, choose the cmsmadesimple-1.11.1-english-checksum.dat, Submit. Get an error popup box that is pink in color. It says:

I could not copy all 122 files because the popup box goes away quickly and I cannot see all of it. Anyway, what am I doing wrong? There is no 'install' directory in the english download. I deleted the install directory as directed yesterday when I did the full install to 1.11. So how do I know when my system verification has failed or not? Thanks,

Matt

I just checked the english.tar.gz

There are approximately 1872 files in the english.tar.gz including the install directory.

If installing via ftp be sure to use 'binary' mode, and use a decent ftp client (like filezilla).

of course, if all the other 122 files are also in the install directory, they will be reported as missing because you deleted it.
Then there is no problem there.

can you paste the exact smarty call to the menu please?

I really haven't any clue left how to solve your issue, since you already stated that you have uninstalled / installed the MenuManager ???

Jos, that's OK. For other users searching the forum, what we have here may be good enough to help them. It is working now with an uninstall and then reinstall, even though not satisfying as far as a full 'post mortem' analysis. --Matt

I see some modules that may not be ready for the newest CMSMS specifically JSCookMenu which I can't find anywhere, try disabling all but the core modules...

Doc--I've been in CMSMS since 1.4...this JSCookMenu thing is way old. Here is my list from Extensions|Modules. Note that it differs from the list in Site Admin | System Information. I notice that JSCookMenu and PHPLayers are modules that appear in the latter but not the former. Any way to get rid of those to clean out the old cruft? How do I know which are "safe" to remove and which are not? Thanks--Matt
