Abandoned: ng from WAMP to LAMP and vice versa? Any gotchas?

Folks I am having some site troubles which begin to look like I need to do a lot of local playing around instead of trying to keep fixing the remote site.

Can I import my LAMP backup into a local WAMP server, resolve my issues and then upload to WAMP... or do I need to build a LAMP machine?

Any traps for young players?
