Hey!
Ummm I am not sure if this is a dumb question or just lacking a clue. I got handed this job on Friday, two minutes before I left for home. I have no experience with Barcode system, scanners or its' software. The closest I have come is when I give the waitress my order.
On the flip side, if this has been discussed I have yet to find that thread or the module that is related. So I will apologize now for my ignorance on this topic.
My new boss wants to be able to maintain an internal Barcode system. He has clients, each client is given a barcode for record purposes.
What we want, other then Bunnies and World Peace...
When the agent goes to enter a new client, they click a button, A screen comes up and says "Scan" and the agent scans the barcode. Then the agent can enter the Clients Information, the Agents information, Information notes and any schedules that are relevant. I am sure there will be more info to come as always.
Then when that is done they click submit and the system is contained with in the DB... or course. There will as always be a need to go back later to edit information. I would also guess there would need to be an Active and Closed option.
Then for retrieval purposes, we will have a members only page, that automatically populates with the barcodes, client and agent names. I would guess that the core search would be good enough to do searches with.
Is there anything remotely like this... or if it is possible, I will hike my butt to the rent a coders section.
Thank you for your tolerance.
D

If you need complex data in a bar code I think that QR Code technology is the solution.
Try to use the QR Code plugin (http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/qrcode) with the 'text' parameter filled with the infos you need.
By this way you can generate in your page a QR Code image that can be readed by a spartphone or others devices.

That is a really good idea! I didn't even know we had a QR module...
Thank you!
