Modifing information collected by SelfRegistration module

Hi folks. I have installed FrontEndUsers, CustomContent, and SelfRegistration modules.

By problem is I need to use a fire department's ID number, issued by their respective states, and a password to authentication them on login. Plus I need to collect a lot more information than the SelfRegistration module asks for. How much work would it be to modify this module to do this?

I am thinking about using FormBuilder to collect the information and then manually registering the departments as I don't think I'll get hundreds of requests at this time. Does this sound like an answer?

FEU has User Properties you can set and assign to each group. User Properties can then be filled by your users depending on the group they belong, or are assign to.
