involuntary migration to v.9 Win Explorer

Post by Adrienne »

Hi
I use 1.6.8 "Pouebo"
Truely I love it and mostly I can work it even though I am not at all good at computers. Thanks for making it user friendly.
Yesterday I was involunarity updated to Windows Interenet Explorer v.9... sigh
Now nothing works...
I can post but nothing else.
Do I
1. try and revert to v.8.06
2. painfully learn a new browser
3. migrate to a newer version of Made Simple
Registering for this forum was not easy - I the template generator question... not nice...
Thanks for your time Adrienne

Hello and welcome

you should:
a) Keep your software up to date including Browser for security and bug reasons improvements?)
b) keep CMSMS up to date for same as above

Before b) you should backup your current installation, meaning a full backup of files and database
In case you do not have enough experience, look for someone who can and is willing to assist you or search for a professional help.

aaaaah
I know I should do all these things, but...
I am not a computer person.
I have to ask someone to do them for me...
Is there no other solution?
I hoped that there was a compatability issue that is being worked on...

If your website is incompatible with IE9, then it's your own template that's incompatible. You should get someone to look at that (or open a topic in the layout&design forum, but you'll need some HTML/CSS knowledge if you want to solve it yourself).

If your website is only displayed right in old IE browsers, chances are big it's incompatible with ALL modern browsers, so you better look into this fast.

Nevertheless backup and update your website as soon as possible, you're missing some important security patches!

@mcDavid

I think the problem is with the admin side of the site, not the front end...
I can post but nothing else.
But I think they should upgrade the site to the latest CMSMS as we don't support anything that old...

Thanks for your time everyone.
I changed to Google Chrome and it works fine - Windows Internet Explorer 9 seems to have compatability problems with other programs too.
Yep a Made Simple update is on the cards.
Thanks
