Problems with templates_c and smarty

Hello all,

I am encountering problems with my cache. All of a sudden my cache folder is emptied somewhere along the way when visiting several pages of the site (frontend), while CMSMS expects several files to be there, so an error pops up. I have checked the rights of the folder and made sure that the hosting account has sufficient disk space. None of it helps.

I am guessing that it has something to do with some config value of PHP? However I have no clue where to look.

Can anyone help me out? Might it be solved with updating the smarty lib? Does anyone why CMSMS uses such an 'old' version of the lib?

It's about www.nedap-retail.nl, the error occurs not all the time. It might be hard to detect it. Off course I hope that you recognise the problem with my description?
