[Solved]How to search Forge?

Post by jasnick »

Last year I made a report in the Forge about Additional Editors needing to be set by an Editor and not just Admin. In other words, the Editor needs to see the Options tab so he can add an Additional Editor. As far as I can see and I tested it for a long time, only an Admin sees the Options tab.

As I recall the result was that this was being fixed but several revisions of CMSMS have come and gone and this morning I discovered it still is not possible for an Editor to add an Additional Editor.

Where would I look for this old post in the Forge?

Thanks

This is pretty simple, really. If you want editors to be able to Add Users and Assign them to the Editors group, just give them the "Add Users" and "Modify Group Assignments" permissions. If you need any other arrangement, just try playing with Groups and Group Permissions.

If you want to find your Feature Request, look for it where you've left it. I guess it's in the "CMS Made Simple Core" project's Feature Requests section.

Also, you have the search box in the upper right corner.

No, that's not what I want. I need Editors to be able to add Additional Editors and they can only do that if they have the Options tab.

Do you mean the options tab while editing a page?

I think it is possible to move fields from the options tab to the general tab?

Site Admin » Global Settings
tab: Content Editing Settings
field: Basic Properties
This field allows you to specify which content properties that users without the "Manage All Content" permission are allowed to edit. The selected properties will appear in the "Main Tab" on the edit content page.

Thank you, Jos - Yes I do. I have 2 Editors and several Additional Editors on a large organisation site. Each Additional Editor is responsible for a particular regional page. The 2 main editors need to be able to assign pages to the Additional Editors.

My original post was: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/viewtopi ... =8&t=54777 and I eventually added it to the Forge, can't find my record of it anywhere, but the result was that it was going to be fixed.

When I first set the site up last year I could not see how to do it except when I was logged in as Admin because I had the Options tab there at the bottom of the page.

Editors don't have the Options tab.

I did see now that there is Additional Editors in the Global Settings/Content Editing Settings/Basic Properties but don't know how to activate it. I clicked on Additional Editors and Saved but it hasn't made any difference to the admin when I log in as an Editor. I still can't see where I can add an Additional Editor when logged in as an Editor.

I tested it and it works for me.

When I select 'Additional Editors' in the field 'Basic Properties' then the field 'Basic Properties' appears in the main tab when editing a page.

When I login as an editor and open a page in the edit mode, I can now select other editors and other groups for editing that particular page.

Editors don't have the Options tab and will never get it. But you can move every field that is normally under the Options tab to the Main tab.

I just don't get it! I am logged in as an Editor, I open a page for editing and I cannot see Basic Properties anywhere! Where are you seeing this? How do you select Additional Editors?

Have I failed to set a Permission correctly? I understand what you are saying but I cannot see how I can implement it. I can only see the Additional Editors box if I am logged in as Admin.

Have just found my Forge input: [#6586] Only Admin can assign Additional Editors and this issue was fixed for 1.10 - now all I need to do is get it working!.

I noticed you use a custom admin theme... I see the same as you: no 'Additional Editors' field while all the settings are right.

So my conclusion is that your theme does not support this...

edit: hold on, I 'll try another theme...

I tried with the default NCleanGrey theme and I still can't see the 'Additional Editors' field in the Main tab... :-\

So it is not your theme... As an admin user the field does show up in the Main tab.
I'm sorry... I really don't know what else to do... :-[

If you only have one "Editors" group you may need to add a new one that has more permissions than default editor gets, look at the difference between admin and editor...

Thank you very much, Jos, for the help. I do appreciate it and am relieved it is not some mistake on my part.

Dr.CSS - I will try that. Seems like a good way out. Luckily it is just this one site that has the multiple Additional Editor requirement.

I will mark this Solved even though the question remains.
