Content pages to have different Top menu to Home pa [SOLVED]

Post by genestevo »

CMSMS 1.10.3 PHP 5.2.17 Mysql 5.0.92 Apache/2.2.21 Linux

Hi Guys,
This is my first time with a CMS system and chuffed to bits so far.
Problem is the guy who wants site built so he can edit later now tells me he wants different navigation set up on Home page to Content pages. ???
Based on Top simple navigation+left subnavigation+1 column template

Structured something like this:
HOME PAGE
Top Menu: Home Places About Contact etc etc
Side Navigation: London Liverpool Manchester (children of Places)

CONTENT PAGES
Top Menu: Home Pubs Hotels Cinemas etc etc
Side Navigation: Children of Pubs, Hotels etc as normal.

So far I’ve made two copies of template which I’ve saved as Home and Content and set pages to relevant template. Trouble is I can’t work out how to edit menus to the structure shown. I’ve tried to argue in favour of consistent navigation to no avail.

Any help appreciated. I have basic understanding of HTML & CSS but PHP may as well be Russian.

Cheers,
Gene Stevo.

If you don't use a drop down type menu you can call what pages you want in the menu using the items= parameter...

Side menu can use childrenof= parameter...

Sorry to appear a bit thick but is the subject of playing with parameters discussed in any tutorials or such like.
I don't understand the solution offered.

Many thanks Dr CSS. I have to admit I haven't done my fix yet but looking at what seems to be a pretty comprehensive set of options I reckon I should be able to work it out.
All that remains is to mark this one solved.
