Drupal You Have Got To Be Kidding !!!!

Post by applejack »

I just installed Drupal 7 as a test to check it out and after having spent a bit of time with it I cannot believe how many people use it. It is the most awkward CMS I have ever used which includes the terrible Joomla. I couldn't even find where to edit the home page content. To edit the page layout you have to edit hardcoded php files etc etc. When creating a news page it doesn't even create a sensible alias but node/1 after which you have to assign it in another screen. There must be something going for it otherwise so many people wouldn't use it and perhaps there are much better themes than the initial installation but I wouldn't dream of handing such a CMS for a client to use. Maybe that's why there are so many more jobs around for Drupal developers just because it is such a pain in the butt.

I am somewhat dumbfounded in it's comparison with CMS made simple with it's intuitive layout. Being able to see the site structure in the page screen and the connection with each pages template and the ability to edit the template directly and just drop in additional content blocks etc makes it so much easier to use. Creating global content blocks and just being able to include those in page content blocks is a god send. I could say a lot more...

If there is anyone who has more experience with Drupal and would care to comment I would be interested to hear but at the moment I just don't get it.

Same feelings here. I felt quite dumb while trying to edit something in Drupal. CMSms makes me feel much much smarter ;)

I am very new to the whole CMS scene. I have several friends who say that Joomla is a steep learning curve and operationaly difficult.

My experience so far of CMSMS is brilliant.

Whilst I've had several small bumps, I've been able to overcome them quickly using the HOWTO guides or by just trying it out.

Cannot express enough how pleased I am so far.

EXCELLENT...

When I re-entered the IT business with Websites I soon found out that I needed to offer a CMS.

After a search I found a list of 300 free CMS systems. After a closer look about 80 remained. I installed about 60, most of them not my idea of "usability".

I ended with CMS made simple, it has a clear structure, is easy to use for a newby but has more then enough capabilities for someone that knows his way in HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript and Smarty.
Through the community I found my way back into the business.

The one most important feature is, it's ease of use for editors, you can teach anyone to change pages, put images in it, so they can run their site.
The next important feature is that one can extend it with modules or own developements pretty easy. No system is that flexible.

I tried Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal in some of my own sites but I always turn back to CMSMS, or I code the site from scratch.

Kind regards,
Jan

I've tried a bunch of them, and they really made me feel stupid, which was a bit embarassing... I came across CMS Made Simple, thinking, "If I can't figure this one out (probably some lame, watered down CMS), then something is wrong with me."
