What do you mean by "do not show up in the 'preview' or in the directory" there is no directory with pages in it?...
Have you set the time zone, search forum for it...
New pages' problem
Re: New pages' problem
CMS 1.9.4.2 is no longer supported, so I advise you to upgrade to CMS 1.9.4.3 and then to 1.10.2.
As for the issue at hand, it's pretty general for all versions of CMS MS, so I'll explain it to you. When you click on the "View" option (magnifying glass) in the Content list (Content -> Pages), the site takes you to that page. So, that's not a preview feature, just a shortcut to the page.
If you want to PREVIEW your page, enter into the edit mode for that particular page and then click the "Preview" tab. This tab is handy when you're making some changes on the page's content and you want to know how it will look before actually applaying or saving the changes.
If your pages are all created, you're happy with them and want to display them on the website, then you have to make sure they're activated. Go to the Content list again and take a look at the "Active" column.
