writting an article with more

Post by Thosbk »

Hi everyone !!

I'm completely new to CMSMS...and have a question, which is maybe stupid :)
Moreover, I'm french, so my english is quite poor : please, forgive me for all my mistakes :)

I have to build a website for my parent's association. This association is devoted to family who have lost a child. It is affiliated to the UK (and US) association Compassionate Friends.
For now on, we have only a hand-made website (html +php + css by hand). However, my goal is to create a website that my parents can manage by themself : writing news, writing articles, etc.
(for now on : they send me the text and I put it in the .php files by hand ...). So CMSMS seems to be a very nice compromise.

This website will contain a section containing some texts, poems, etc.
I would like to create an authomatic "style-maker". Let me explain it :)
Each text/poem will have a few parameters, like :
- a title
- author of the text
- an image
- the body of the text

I would like CMSMS to put the title in the right place (with the "<h3>.. </h3>"), the text, the image and the author in the place and with the style, indicated in the template/CSS file.

My question is the following. Is it possible to create a page, as the page "create article", which will be adapted to this case.
To be more precise, is it possibile to create a page in the admin board which will ask the writter to fill :
Title :
Author of the text :
Image :
Body of the text :

Thus, my parents would just have to fill the blanks and the CSS template will place every thing in the right place with the right style.
(see

here for example

in french, but just to have an idea ...)

I don't ask you to do this "module", but "do you think it is possible ?" :)
(and "if yes, how hard is it ?")
If it's too hard, then I will find another solution, more "hand-made", that's not a big deal :)
Or maybe, you have an idea ?

Thank you very much in advance, and have a good night (or end of afternoon for the US members :)

This is exactly why you need a CMS and CMSMS is the right choice for you. There are several modules built-into the CMS and the one that will fist your need perfectly is the News module. All you have to do is add the image field to the default News content-type. On the Admin side, your users will get a form exactly like you describe. On the front-end, you can adapt one of the existing display templates with the HTML you need.

The best place to start is with the documentation for the News module. You could also consider buying the excellent User Guide that is available on PacktPub, that does cover this topic.

Hope that helps.
