FCKEditor is dead, long live the CKEditor

Post by MASSER »

After almost two years of intensive development, it's a pleasure to release the first stable version of CKEditor 3.0, our next generation browser based WYSIWYG editor. This is the next big thing following the birth of CKSource.

CKEditor is a complete rewrite of our so loved FCKeditor, which got a bit old after six years of great success. Not to say that FCKeditor is doing bad, but there are some new things we could bring to it, and CKEditor is the result of it. I'm sure you will feel the difference, and if you were happy with FCKeditor, you'll be now amazed with CKEditor.

Can it be inserted in CMSMS?

Great work.

Good luck getting CKEditor integrated with CMSMS. Personally I'd love to see another content editor as long as its not bloated and support is maintained, unlike FCKEditor.

From what I have seen on the CKEditor site, you're onto a winner. Thanks for finally providing a decent competitor to TinyMCE.

TinyMCE has not got half the functions needed in this CMS, while it is not bad for admin stuff where your not having to play with HTML as much. FCKEditor had a nasty habit of inserting spaces where spaces should not appear and breaking the CMS smarty tags. TinyMCE did not have that issue.

What about CKEditor? As my friend uses FCKEditor because it has features like being able to make tables which TinyMCE does not.

So will CMSMS Dev's be making a CKEditor mod for the CMS?

I've no idea whether anyone is developing a CKEditor module (although I suspect the main devs have plenty of other things on their list).

But TinyMCE can certainly do tables if that's what you want.

Under Extensions -> TinyMCE Wysiwg take a look at the 'Profile' tab - there's a checkbox there to 'Allow table operations'.

It's worth looking at the 'Plugins' tab as well if there's something else specific you need Tiny to do.

Does anyone know if CKeditor is already available for CMSMS. CKeditor is so much better than TinyMCE and much much much better than MicroTiny. ???

I realy like CMSMS but if it comes to wysiwyg editors cmsms is realy weak. Only TinyMCE as full wysiwyg editor. :-\
