Upgrade from 1.6.4 to 1.9.4.3?

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Upgrade from 1.6.4 to 1.9.4.3?

Post by JohnAlan »

Hi,

I've missed a few upgrades but with an imminent server upgrade to PHP5.3 it's something I can't put off any longer!

I've got 3 installations of CMSMS, one on 1.6.4 and the other two on 1.6.5. My understanding is that for PHP5.3 compatability I need a minimum of version 1.7...however I'd like to upgrade to the most recent version (1.9.4.3?) if it's possible in one go, as performing the individual upgrades with the difference files between each release would be quite an undertaking.

Can this be done? If so, any help would be much appreciated :)

If not, and I have to do the upgrade in increments, some don't appear to have difference files in them - http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/project/files/6#package-1 (specifically 1.7.1, 1.8 and 1.9). What do I do in these instances?

Also, why are there some releases out of sequence on that page: -

1.6.8 between 1.8 and 1.8.1
1.6.9 between 1.9.1 and 1.9.2
and
1.6.10 between 1.9.4.1 and 1.9.4.2

Hi,

if you have everything backedup and you did make sure that module being used are also compatible with 1.9.x you can try it with fingers crossed and one long jump.

At least i safely upgraded some installs from 1.4.x, but this doesn't mean it will always work, so first thing to do is full backup of files and DB.

1.6.8+ versions were releases for some unlucky users that were stuck on PHP4 environment.

Many thanks for your reply.

When you say "one long jump" do you mean overwriting files with those from the 1.9.4.3 full download, then running www.mydomain.com/install/upgrade.php ?

I would not recommend just "jumping" forward. Go with the major releases (1.6,1.7, etc)... I'm upgrading a 1.5 site to current and I'm having trouble with the jump from 1.7 to 1.8 - one module giving me problems....anyway..good luck.

Thanks for the advice...I successfully upgraded all but one to 1.9.4.3 :)

The one with the problem is using FrontEndUsers and some conditional stuff is causing an issue on page editing...but I'll start another thread for that as I think it's fixable...

Thanks again for the help on this thread :)
