Outbrain 'DROP_PERMALINK_HERE'

Post by DADOCTOR »

Hello,

I am trying to implement Outbrain with CMSMS
I have to edit part of the code,

This is what is asked for,
Replace the 'DROP_PERMALINK_HERE' text in the code with a variable that indicates each post's permalink URL. This variable may be different depending on what platform you're using, but it should dynamically pull in the permanant URL of each page where the widget resides.
What do I replace 'DROP_PERMALINK_HERE' with ?

Any help would be great, I tried to search for it but could not find anything related.

Thanks
Ryan

You can tell a lot about a product by the help and feedback that you get from support,

I think I have about 3 un answered posts.

I know that this is for a 3rd party product

I love it but cant get support

Hi DADOCTOR,
IMHO, you might receive more helpful replies to questions like this, if you provide more information. Your reply (above) to DrCSS' questions didn't provide any new info. over that of your original post. Have you read the post
Board index»Official Boards»README FIRST!!!»How To Submit a Question So You'll Actually Get Help? If not, please do.

Volunteer developers and community members typically don't have the time to research every 3rd party product. To paraphrase a cliche, "help the community help you". You can help by providing the appropriate relevant info. For starters:
  1. Provide a short summary of what "outbrain" is and what it does.
  2. Context: you posted...
DADOCTOR wrote:...I have to edit part of the code,...
Replace the 'DROP_PERMALINK_HERE' text in the code with a variable that indicates each post's permalink URL...
...but you didn't say what kind of "code" you're working with. What is the programming environment, the programming language, API, etc.? Are you working with PHP? Perl? Java? JavaScript?... Objective-C? ;-)
  3. The term "PERMALINK" is a bit ambiguous. I don't recall a PERMALINK standard. So...
    1. How does "outbrain" define this term?
    2. Is it up to the "outbrain" developer to decide what these look like?
If so, can you provide an example of your chosen format?
    3. Does "outbrain" provide PERMALINK examples?
    4. Do PERMALINKs refer to only pages or also news|blog|forum posts, images, etc.?
In my experience, providing relevant info. can improve your chances of getting relevant replies to your questions.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help and advice fredp,

I was thinking that by mentioning outbrain I could get an answer from someone who does know about it, and that is what I was trying to ask in my first post.

I did also say that it is nothing to do with CMSMS so it could not be interpreted as a module or .....

I didn't expect to get support for Outbrain as I would ask them for help with their code,

I run a forum and it uses permalinks- probably like this forum, (not sure) where each post can have its own permalink, so that instead of having just whole topics indexed you can have individual posts indexed.

I dont know much about permalinks thats why I could not go into more detail.

Outbrain creates links to other popular/random content on your website by displaying thumbnail images with title text under the thumbnail that link within your website

Have a look here http://crimecasefiles.com/blog/ this is my blog which I just added it to, it is still trying to search for images for thumbnails, so its almost running perfectly.

So I think that CMSMS does not use permalinks ? I would like to try to implement it but not sure if I can.

Sorry I posted the way I did , I was assuming that outbrain was more popular than I thought. I would not ask for support for a 3rd party product and also thought that permalink was a known term for developers.

I have not much knowledge about coding and dont do this for a profession.

Thanks to all, I love CMSMS and will be back for help I am sure.

Regards
Ryan
