[solved] Upgrade problems 1.6.6 to 1.9.4.1

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

[solved] Upgrade problems 1.6.6 to 1.9.4.1

Post by paulbaker »

Ughhhh.... :(

We had a CMSMS site running fine at 1.6.6. We were having some TinyMCE problems - would only display HTML editing screen even if you clicked WYSIWYG. Took a quick look in to this, couldn't see a solution so thought I would "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" and upgrade to sort it out.

Marked website with a site down message.

Backed up site & database.

Downloaded and unzipped 1.9.4.1. FTPed this new version, overwriting files.

Went to http://www.example.com/install/upgrade.php and found a white screen.

config.php is at 666.

Cleared cache. No difference.

Checked error log, nothing there for upgrade.php. There is an error listed for when I cleared cache (php file is siteprefs):

[Thu Mar 31 16:08:26 2011] [error] [client n.n.n.n] SoftException in Application.cpp:601: Directory "/home/jgr/public_html/modules" is writeable by group, referer: http://www.example.com/adminjjgg/sitepr ... _=4e0c6013

I can login to the admin area and view the pages there, although there are broken images etc. and some tabs are not working. Bottom of screen still says 1.6.6.

Site is still showing the site down message.

PHP version 5.2.17
MySQL version 5.0.92-community-log

I have set tmp and tmp/cache directories to 777 as suggested in http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/viewtopi ... =3&t=24795

I am currently re-uploading all 1.9.4.1 files in the hope that there are some files which didn't quite make it.

What else can I try? :-\ Thank you for any ideas on this one.

An update! It was clearly an FTP problem. The install script started working properly after the second FTP session had completed. Now all upgraded and working great.

Paul, I have a site that is at v1.6.7 and am going to be upgrading that in the next day or so.

Did you do one big upgrade from 1.6.6 to 1.9.4.1 with out doing any incremental upgrades? Wow, that's scary.

But you say it worked and without any issues? If that's true, I'd sure love to be able to do one big upgrade rather than 6 incremental upgrades.

Could you just confirm that you did this as one big upgrade with no issues? Thanks.

You can safely do the upgrade in one step.

Just make sure you have the right php version and a backup of both your database and the files.

Hi cnymike yes it was one step. The only issue was the FTP problem where not all the files made it.

As Jos says, make sure you have a backup - and give it a go. :D

I made backup of DB and installation.

Turned on site down message and cleared cache.

Uploaded the full tar.gz and the checksum.dat.txt files.

Held my breath and initiated the upgrade.

Went through the process flawlessly.

I'm so relieved and happy that a one-shot upgrade from 1.6.7 to 1.9.4.1 went perfectly.

Great! It's always a bit of a relief when an upgrade goes smoothly. ;)
