Any Plans for a Master Search Module?

Talk about writing modules and plugins for CMS Made Simple, or about specific core functionality. This board is for PHP programmers that are contributing to CMSMS not for site developers

Any Plans for a Master Search Module?

Post by wfunderberg »

This CMS is by far the easiest in the world to use and I am lovin it everyday. HOWEVER, there is no point in even having a CMS when you cannot do a simple task such as search on your site.

I downloaded the PiSearch function and even though it's ok for the Content areas having the News section cut out and even other modules is NOT cool by no means.

Yes I have seen the threads that will allow you to tear out the engine and put a new one back in with the PiSearch function but I really would like to have this built into CMSMS.

Yes there are plans for search, but it wont be ready for a while Im afraid :(

in the meantime best bet is to use external spidering such as phpdig

If Pisearch was more installer friendly I wouldn't mind having to install that into CMS but it seems that searching a database takes our developers a lot of time (no pun intented here of course).
I agree completely that search should be a default option in a super CMS like this one.  ;)

What do you expect from pisearch with installer  ??? ?

1. Put function.pisearch.php to plugin directory
2. Put pisearch.tpl to tmp/template
4. Set the default encoding.
4. Read the docu.
5. Call it in your template

That's all ... only a small tag and a template is enough.

Not so big as we can but so small as we need should be the slogan on developing for CMSms!

Mmmm in that case I must be looking at an old version of PIsearch then ?
Must be the language barriere here, but with installer I did not mean a piece of software to install the thing but the person who has to implement the function into CMS which was quite a lot more difficult then the average tag as I remember.

I recall the description being in German only (not a problem for me as a dutchy) and describing you have to actually create a element inside your template, which sounds a lot larger then a tag called {pisearch} ;)

But I guess from what you write a lot has been improved since the version I roughly described then ?

[me=Spikecity]is picking up the new version now....[/me]

But in all honesty a search function should be a base function in a CMS and not rely on a "third party" written tag or module.
At least by now the developers could decide to implement pisearch into the base package, unless it will not work with other databases then MySQL of course.

Don't know what you mean ... Version 1.37a help was completely in english. And templates in english and french are available too.

Completely agree  :) ...

I'll pick back up on the search module after 0.13 comes out.  It's going to require a few core changes, so it's best that I wait until after the major release to do them.

No hurry Ted, better solid then fast coding ;)
I think with the 0.13 cycle at least performance increased dramatically and it seems lighning fast compared to 0.11 and 0.12.

Keep up the good work (too bad I'm too stuck in Perl coding and yet another major release of YaBB2 coming up or I would be able to do some work for you guys)
