install/apply new admin theme

Hi,

I upload new theme into admin/themes/...(wanting to try out the new limpid theme)...but it does not show up in the drop downlist along with defalt and Ncleanblue. Also, if i try to edit some of the css of the defalt theme nothing works.

I must be missing something obvious but cannot seem to fine an answer in the forum.
