Dear CMSMS forum,
i am quite a bit around here, so i decided to sign up and ask the users about their opinion.
Since i have a huge project in front of me, a complete re-make of CMS and design of a large hotel chain, i would like to ask for you comments and help in regard if CMSMS will be able to satisfy my requirements. I was about to stick with Symphony or SilverStripe, but since i tried CMSMS, i must admit that the ease of use, the powerful options in creating sections, snippets, own custom code etc.. has impressed me much.
Additonally, i am really concerned that the users of the new CMS should be able to easy handle their tasks.
Please give me your advice in some important features i need from the CMS, can CMSMS handle:
1. IMPORTANT!!: My project will have content of aprox. 60 pages available in 6 lnguages. Can CMSMS handle such size of web site?
2. Multilingual content -> How is multilingual page structure handled with CMSMS? Is visitor redirected to index page of each language (as soon he switches language)OR does he stays in current content, viewable in each available language?
3. Template per page -> can be different templates assigned for each page?
4. Mod_rewrite & SEO friendly URL's supported?
5. Ease of "per page" required script library & CSS includes?
6. Media uploads and manipulation supported?
7. Can user manipulate content sections without "blowing" whole layout and struggeling with WYSIWYG Editor?
8. Ease of re-use of content sections (assigning same sections to different pages) for user?
9. Assign different navigation sections per template and managing navigation structure on backend?
10. Assign access to users by property? -> Project will involve 8 properties of the chain, each property user will have to have access to manipulate content ONLY for its property assigned. Others need to be hidden
I am sorry for my long post, and appreciate your comments as prior choosing CMSMS for my future projects i would love to hear from your experince.
Can CMSMS be my solution?
Re: Can CMSMS be my solution?
pivey,
I don't have all answers for you, but the following should give you a warm feeling for deciding to take on CMSMS.
1. I calculate this as 60*6 is 360 pages, which should be no problem. Be sure to take at least the latest version (now 1.9.4.1) since caching for sure handled in a good way in last versions.
2. There are options. Search the forum how to handle this. It involves some special settings to get it working.
3. No problem (I take it this will not be 360 but more like 60). However with 6 languages: again the language settings might lead to somewhat more.
4. Is in place. I'm not sure that you can 'migrate' current Google/Alexa or which ever rating.
5. It is possible to include smarty tags per page and scripting. CSS I'm not sure since that it normally connected to the template that is used for the page. You can connect multiple stylesheets to one template.
6. There is an uploads module, but someone else has to step in to be sure.
7. Various settings allow a user from novice to advanced entry/maintenance to work with CMSMS. Of course you will need to set things up using security roles/groups.
8. That would be the content blocks which allow to be used multiple times in one or more pages.
9. Various menus can be prepared and are linked to a template. Hope this gives the correct answer (might be that I misunderstood your question).
10. This depends on the settings per user. You will have to prepare a property page and all its connected pages as a tree below it. One owner can than only changes the connected pages. This should be set up per user.
Hope this helps,
Duketown

Re: Can CMSMS be my solution?
5. If you use AdvancedContent, you can create a pulldown of javascript and css files that are available, set a default, and let the content owner choose which one he wants.. With a little bit of Smarty in the template, you can use whichever javascript or css needed for that page.
Was this what you meant?

Re: Can CMSMS be my solution?
I really appreciate your inputs. There are indeed some very nice modules available.
So, if all can be done with CMSMS, next is to test the application in depth and join this friendly forum.
Thank you, will see each other hopefully more often here.
