Client access to image manager?

Post by jasnick »

Using latest version CMSMS.

Am preparing my first set of instructions for a client to use the CMS.

I am giving permission to edit pages, News and Gallery modules.

Is it a good idea to give access to Image Manager or not?

If not, how do they upload images - just via FTP to the uploads dir?

Does the WYSIWYG editor upload images only from those already in uploads?

Thanks

I do something a bit different for my clients. They already upload images for the Gallery module. If they want an image for a page, I don't want to have to tell them that there is a different way to do this, when to them, it's the same thing. I created a gallery for them called 'Pages', where they can upload images, auto-resizing to a pre-defined directory. If images need to be separated, they can create sub-galleries, etc.

Yes, it is going to be a bit confusing. My client has 2 galleries and each of the other pages have some images as well. What I have done this time is to put all my site design images such as page background images, logo and rounded corner box images into a folder "siteimages", which then leaves just the images for the pages in Image Manager. I don't see the need for them to fiddle with the Gallery and Gallery Thumbs folders so in the 4 page set of CMS usage instructions I have written for them, I told them not to touch those other folders in Image Manager.

As you say, it took a bit of explaining to differentiate between uploading photos to the galleries and illustrative photos for the other pages. I will certainly look at your suggestion for the next client who wants a CMS. Most of my clients don't so this one is a bit of a guinea-pig to see how my instructions pan out.

So its a learning curve for me as well. I am really enjoying using CMSMS and am doing all my sites in it regardless of whether the client will ever use it or not.

Thanks

Hello. New to CMSMS. I have not yet figured out what permission to set for giving my client access to the Image Manager. I know how to give permissions, just not wich permission that controls the image manager (do not want to use gallery, I like to keep things simple)

I think using Gallery makes it simple.
