exclude news category?

i'm looking for a way to exclude a news category from showing. if i only include the categories i want to show (by listing all but the one i want to hide, with commas), news items are shown in that order (the order in which i've listed the categories i want to show).

i want items to be shown normally, by posting date, but excluding one category. is that possible?

You can using smarty logic in your summary template to reject a category, though it will mess with your 'number' parameter if you're using it. If you're using 'number=5' and four of them are the wrong category, you'll only get one news article.

You mentioned that if you specify the categories, it gives you the articles in category order? I use this all the time and have never seen this behavior. The sortby field is supposed to default to "news_date" regardless of category order.
