Can't get beyond stage 3 of the install process

Hi

First of all I'm pretty new to all this and as I've stated in a previous post elsewhere on this forum I'm right at the foot of the learning curve here.

I've uploaded CMSMS to my server, I've left it in its default folder cmsmadesimple because I want to use it as a test site and not interfere with my current site, (I've got some reseller space with Host Gator).

But I can't get past stage 3 of the installation process, and the following error message is displayed.
"Could not connect to database. Verify that username and password are correct, and that the user has access to the given database."

I know there has been a recent post on this subject, but I don't have shell access to the server and I can only create  a database either through CPanel or PHPMyadmin, I've played around with stuff on my own machine so I'm sort of familiar with the process of creating databases and I’m aware of access privileges.

I’ve tried to do all the checks and balances for things such as database name, user etc.. but to no avail.

For my sins and so that I can get a virtual arse kicking,   I've now know what the problem was with the installation.

Thanks to a friend who pointed it out to me what I needed to was the following, and I hope this of some help to others

1)creeate the DB
2)Create the user
3)set rgihts to the user and assign that user to the database you want that user to access

Please note that this was done via Cpanel and the MySQL Account Maintenance that comes with CPanel

We try to keep our virtual arse kickings to a minimum around here.  Anyways, glad that you figured it out.  Unfortunately, it's much easier for us not to support creation of the database, since there are an infinite amount of different ways to do it, and most people on webhosts don't have access to do it through their mysql login anyway...
