My Masterpiece - Who needs freakin Wordpress!

Post by orangefrog »

I have finally finished my masterpiece, or at least that's what I call it. I was going to build the site in Wordpress, but I've been using CMS MS for so long now, I figured out everything I needed from CMS MS. What a great system.

I just want to say thank you to all who have helped in the forum answering some pretty dumb questions I had...sorry Calguy. Thanks again for everything. Pretty sure WP doesn't have as great as a community as CMS MS!

Here's the site. http://www.ridgemeadowschamber.com/

Let me know your feedback, good or bad. Below is a list of the modules I've got working. Still implementing a few more as time rolls along.

AjaxMadeSimple 0.3.1

If anyone knows an easy way to setup IE6 for testing, please let me know. It's the only browser I haven't test in.

It's usable in IE6, but everywhere you have the fancy translucent PNGs, it doesn't look quite right.

Not sure about the warning. Might be some of the jquery script.

As I stated before - great site. Now what do we do about the required info on the popup forms? If you don't enter a required item and press 'Send', the form disappears. Not until you click on the link to the form again are you able to see the errors/warnings. Somehow the form has to remain persistent for error checking and then be submitted. Any ideas?

Cool! What version are you running? I'm having trouble reading the header graphics. I'd take a transparent 20% black png in a span and make that a little darker at the top so there's more contrast. Nearly all the work at dropSoul.com is all CMSMS, who needs word press indeed!

I use a package called IE Tester:

All IE versions, one application. No conflicts on the XP or Vista.

carasmo,

I'm running 1.8.2. But I just noticed that 1.9 just came out. THink I'm going to have ot upgrade.

Just tried the IE Tester as you suggested. THANK YOU SO FREAKIN MUCH! Works like a hot damn. Man the site looks like crap in IE6. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have no idea how much hell I've gone through trying to setup a testing system to run IE6. Now I don't have to.

Anyone looking for a good testing system for IE, this is the one you want to use. Freakin awsome!

In case I haven't said it yet, Thank You!

PS. I went to your site, nice! And nice work too!

That's the one thing I love about CMSMS, it allows us designers to be programmers, or at least look like 'em. I'm trying to get a site up in Wordpress(customer request), and I absolutely hate it. Since I've been using CMSMS, nothing else compares as far as setting up a site, customizing it and getting the modules to work. I switched a couple that is running a clown company from Wordpress to CMSMS. They absolutely love it and have said many times that they are so happy they can actually use and modify the site now. Apparently a day doesn't go by that they aren't using the site.

A most excellent website!

I am a local chamber member and have offered to create a new website for our chamber.  Our current chamber website was built by a local chamber web development company about 6 years ago and sucks.  This is excellent.

I immediately went to view your member directory but it appears you haven't decided which module to use.  Have you made any decision on which module?

Hope you won't mind a few questions as we progress along our new development.  I really like to use CMS MS and you're right about the great help in the forum.

There is only one area I wish existed.  That is an area where each of the most popular modules could be seen in action along with an example of the page code for people like me who may know Joomla, phpWebsite, and Drupal inside out but have to keep experimenting with almost every module to get a handle on it.  I understand there is a learning curve but sometimes seeing the basic code is very helpful.  For example your Events page is perfect.  What does the page layout look like with the smarty tages?  Now I don't mean reveal all of your work.  Just the basic info of how you were able to layout the page using which modules.

Why use CMS instead of the other programs?  Simple, it's so much more user friendly for the nonprofit organizations we create websites for for free.

Great site and thanks for your list of modules used.  I'm off to try to learn how to use each one!

Thanks for the feedback! I've looked at other CMS before i started using CMSMS a few years back. I like because it's really simple to use for us non-programmer types. Wordpress is hard to setup templates. THe other main reason I like it is it's templating ability. I can have a site with 20 different templates and they can all look completely different.

I pulled the old php directory form the old site for the member directory. I'm currently setting it up in cataloger and am going to use content alias for the multiple category listing. Cataloger is going to work well as I can control the output more than any other module for something like this. Also, cataloger allows most recent lists and random lists to be compiled which works well for the company logos on the right side of the page.
