CMSMS Source Code Stolen & Being Resold?

Post by EGS »

Hello.

I found a CMS in which is FULL of features but is a paid-for CMS. When I was looking deeper into the CMS, I believe that it is really CMS Made Simple, maybe modified a LITTLE bit, and being resold. It uses a module system and it's structure is basically the same, if not the same, as CMS, just designed better. :P

Being that it has so many modules it really makes me want to buy this CMS, but if it is CMSMS, I wonder if its modules will work with CMSMS?

The CMS I'm talking about is called Expression Engine. If you look at their showcase you'll see sites that closely resemble sites made with CMSMS, as the URL structure is the same as default CMSMS, as well as its template engine and menu system:

Sites made with "EE" :-
http://havilahlegal.com.au/
http://www.solutionweb.co.uk/
http://www.realty.com/
http://www.redflagdeals.com/
http://www.paul-rand.com/
http://ftv.chapman.edu/
http://www.trevorallen.ca/
http://www.peopleandculture.co.uk/
http://movingonradio.com/
http://photographyblog.com/

What do you think? Is it using CMSMS? Is it possible that they can be? And if they are is it legal? I know CMSMS is open source, but really if you're basing CMSMS in "your" CMS, then you should honestly then be donating to CMSMS itself, since its your CMS's foundation. -.-
EGS provides MMORPG services for WoW, FFXI, FFXIV, AION, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, RuneScape, Guild Wars, Maple Story, Cabal Online, as well as most other free-to-play MMORPGs.

Our site is *proudly* powered by CMS Made Simple. :D

CMS Made Simple isn't just simply, it's ridiculously powerful, and suitable for virtually any site and niche. It easily allows us to maintain our site in which receives about 5,000 unique visitors per day.

We have no cause for concern in this matter. The similarities could come from various 3rd party tools/framewrosk and developing techniques that would cause familiar behaviors.
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer.

I know this is an old thread, but Expression Engine is developed by Rick Ellis, and is actually a beefing up of the now-defunct pMachine blogging program, which has been around at least since 2004 or so because I remember trying to use it when I became frustrated with MovableType way back in the day. :)

What you could also be seeing when you look at sites that are on various "showcases" is a migration of the site from one CMS to another.  Perhaps (and that would be a nice thing to think) the sites originally used EE and have since migrated to CMS-MS or some other CMS. :)
