Website of 180 pages- any problems foreseen?

Post by burlington »

I have been asked to consider creating a website of 180+ pages using CMSMS. Text, images and product specifications.

Besides the sheer mind-boggling size of the thing are there are problems that the experts can think may occur?

thanks

The only problem i can remember that may occur with many pages is if you want to list all pages at once using the MenuManager or when expanding all pages in backend in the list pages panel.

If you plan to create a page for each product it would be better to use an article management module like news or products.

Hi Martin,

Our site has lots of pages, about 150 i think.

A problem i found with CMSMS/my Server was that I ALWAYS get a 'fatal error' when i try to load the 'content > pages' tab in the admin panel - if the forum module is installed – But once i uninstalled that module, it seemed to load the pages again OK, even though the front end of the website never went offline. I'm running CMSMS 1.8.2 and on a new dedicated ubuntu server.

In the end i had to run the forum off of another installation of CMSMS under a different sub-domain (http://forum.care-plan-management-system.co.uk/) - annoying for SEO, but unfortunately, the only way i could get it to work in the end, without buying a more powerful server.

Just thought i'd share that. Hope it helps.

Karl.

Thanks folks. Very helpful.

Many of these 180 pages seem to be product data sheets so, if I do the work, I will try to ensure these are downloadables in pdf format.

I have this site with about 350 pages... http://sjrmc.org/  .. no troubles .. But FYI the cool part of using modules for things is that you can fake 1000's pages but only use a few.. HTH Cheers -Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Which modules are you using on your website? If i could get the sheer number of my HTML pages down that would be tremendous, but I have a lot of flat html that needs to show my pages.

thanks, Karl.

We have users on CMSMS that have some thousand  of pages running.
Currently the limiter for many pages are for the expand and collapse of the page tree on the listcontent in admin.
