Setting permissions for news categories

Hello, I'm using 1.6.6 and am trying to set up permissions to allow a user or group to only have access to certain news categories.

Example: I have
Category 1
Category 2
Category 3

Group X can edit/view Category 1 but not 2 and 3.
Group Z can edit/view Category 3 but not 1 and 2.
And Admin can edit/view any category.

Any ideas? Anyone have any luck trying this? has this feature been implemented since 2007? lol

Erm... well, it seems you're talking about the news module, aren't you?
I also needed this function and filed a feature request about one year ago.
As i know this is not implemented until now.
I dunno why.

So i did some modification to the news module by myself to set additional editors to the categories and articles (like in the edit page panel).
But since the forum rules permits to post those changes here because those (even useful) changes are unsupported by the devs you're up to your own.

yes, the news module. Looks like I'll have to edit and modify the module myself. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start?
