[SOLVED]learn PHP for CMSMS

Hello!

I believe I'm right assuming that CMS becomes much more useful if one learn PHP & Smarty.

Considering that Silk framework will require PHP-5.3+, I'm looking for some adequate book to keep me going.

After some research I've found about the:

• * Beginning PHP and MySQL: From Novice to Professional, Third Edition (there is 4th ed. available) and
• * Beginning PHP 5.3

Based on several reviews and exploring TOCs, it looks that the former is more like a reference, making the latter more suitable.  ???

Anyone who read one of them or both can comment and/or give some recommendation?

(My primary motivation to learn PHP is to develop skills required to tweak & develop modules for CMS...)
