FrontEndUsers 1.0

Post by nils73 »

I have been playing around with FrontEndUsers 1.0 for a while now. It was kind of difficult to understand how it works and I did a bunch of extra-work because I did not know that a translation of the module existed in the translation project.

However, there are several issues I had with the module, probably the most severe is that a frontend user can not change the password. It always says "invalid password". It seems there is a problem with the function but I could not figure out what it is.

The error-handling could be improved, because I only get one error even though there might be more. Then the error-message is too far away from the field that it refers to. And last but not least the HTML is sometimes 4.01 instead of XHTML 1.x and uses font-tags instead of CSS styled content.

I will send the modified files to calguy along with my templates. Maybe the revisions are useful for the next release.

However I hope someone can help me with the lost password thing ... I get to the page where I can enter the code (it is already filled in) and my username is filled in. When I enter the password and the password-repeat I always get errors - no matter what I change.

Ah, by the way: Users that applied for a password change can be deleted, no matter what button I click on in the admin-panel. ;o)

Nils

I'll check the lost password thing for the upcoming 1.0.4 release.

That would be great because things got even worse: Right now I can't add nore modify users. However, if I do it right in the database itself then I can edit them in the admin-panel again.

BTW, you should be able to get feusers 1.0.1 working in 0.11.2, or even the latest svn snapshot.  I've taken out the requirement for the 0.12 series.

Nils, testing the svn version did not reproduce your "user cannot change password" issue.  did you by any chance create a property entitled "password", when defining your properties.  If you did, that would be your problem.

I had a quick look and these are the properties I have created:

vorname
(text-field, required)

e-mail
(E-Mail, required)

So this shouldn't be the problem. However I will give 1.01 a shot.

I have just installed 1.04 of FrontEndUsers ... same problem. Maybe I should uninstall all of it (including mysql entries) and try once again. Maybe something happened that can not be reproduced. Will try that later this weekend.

Now that I have uninstalled all modules that have dependencies (FrontEndUsers, CustomContent and CMSMailer) and re-installed and re-configured them, everything works fine. I think it strange and it kind of reminds me of Windows95 --- so maybe it's not a bug but a feature. ;o)

Actually I would have needed to upgrade all of the modules anyhow. Don't worry anymore and thanks for the great support and for the quick help.

Nils
