admin section lost all formatting

Post by FirstGateDreamer »

Okay, so I know I'm a dumbass and screwed up  :'(

I'm running 1.6.4 (yes I know I need to upgrade)
PHP 4.4.4 (yes I know I need to upgrade but that's not in my control)

I was rushing and overtired and tried to install CGBlog using the Module interface via the XML install file. When I did that it crashed on me and now the entire admin section lost all CSS formatting. I thought I could just uninstall the module but I can't get in the module section as I get the following error

Code: Select all

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/webhosting/myspecialdevsite/public_html/modules/CGBlog/CGBlog.module.php on line 609
I can't seem to delete the module folder or any of it's contents via FTP either?

I know I have to update the CMSMS version to 1.8 and will try that. If I do so will this resolve the Admin formatting problem?

I've asked my host to update their PHP but am guessing this will take some time, if they can do it for me. Until then is there any way I can roll this back so I can continue working on other things?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why can't you? Deleting the folder in /modules is one way to go about it. Modifying the database is another. Why can't you delete the folder from FTP?

What happened with you, AND WILL KEEP HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE is that you do not need to upgrade modules, and MUST NOT until you read all RELEVEANT RELEASE NOTES.

The module version you tried to upgrade to either requires a PHP version upgrade, or relies on a module you have not installed, or has been rewritten completely.

If you're stuck with PHP 4, you can't upgrade to CMSMS 1.8 - you can only go up to 1.6.8.

Regarding the module folder, you may be able to delete the CGBlog folder from File Manager, if you can't do it via FTP.

Is there another recomended blog module? I went to the other blog modules posted here and they all said to use CGBlog.

File manager only shows me what I have in the uploads folder.

FTP says I don't have permission to delete or do anything to the files.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know I screwed it up. I thought I had the latest version but I guess it was on a different installation of CMSMS. Shouldn't work when I'm so tired and in a rush. Sorry.

In File Manager, under the Settings tab, check the "Enable advanced mode" checkbox. This will give you access to the other directories.

From what I heard, other modules are not worked on.

Basically, go back to what you used to have and do not upgrade ANYTHING for now.

Do you have a db backup?

What are file permissions that you're trying to delete? This may even be a bad permissions issue if files cannot be written to or executed by CMSMS. Research that problem before hunting down all other problems.
