[SOLVED] Fresh install won't even show images in cmsms sample page....
Completely new to this area but learning fast....
I have been asked to upload an exported CMSMS site that had been developed and later exported by somebody else, as part of a move to a new ISP. After quite a lot of trying and retrying, I have got to a position in which I can browse the text content of the imported site but on pages that apparently lack any/some layout/style and on which the images are not displayed. I have checked all the settings that I am aware of and it appears that the images are in the right directory with the correct permissions. Also, when using the image viewer and content editior, the images are not displayed. For the import, I first created a mysql db, installed CMSMS 1.8 (the site was developed on an older ver) and phpmyadmin, imported the SQL data and uploaded the images into uploads/images (I did not bring across any more files because I was concious of the different CMSMS version) .....I feel SO close to success that it is driving me mad. I am contemplating starting a new site and have purchased the book ! However, as time is of the essence, I'd like to get the old one back up in its original form. Please..... any indicators as to what might be causing my site and CMSMS console to not display images and why the 'style' has gone missing would be gratefully received. Thanks

Re: Migration to new server: something is missing or broken ! No images or format
Hi, in which version of CMSMS was the original site built?

It was 1.2.x originally. Now I am using 1.8.1

My signature. And check config.php paths.

It's best when transferring a site to keep to the original version of CMS Made Simple till it's up and running then upgrade...
remove everything you have now, folders, files, etc., clear DB...
Upload all original folders, files, etc., you will need to include the install folder from exact version it was, if you don't have it you can DL the file from the cmsms DL page...
Import the original DB into the new one...
Run yoursite.com/install...
NOTE: in step 5 where you input the new DB info DON'T INSTALL DEFAULT CONTENT OR CREATE TABLES this will recreate all paths in the config.php with out removing any of the original content or designs...
Once done you should have an exact copy of the site, check to make sure it works correctly then you can upgrade to 1.8.1...

Re: Migration to new server: something is missing or broken ! No images or format
OK, I took a different route and the results surprised (disappointed) me. I removed my db and files from the server, re-created the db, uploaded phpmyadmin and cmsmadesimple (1.8.1) for a clean install to play with. I ran the cmsms install and it all went well. Except I have the same problem as I had with my imported website - no images. The very first thing I did was to display the cmsms sample home page, and sure enough, the image (uploads/NCleanBlue/screen-1.6.jpg) does not display. The file is present in the said directory, permissions are (too) open. config.php LOOKS ok to the uninitiated (i.e. me). Why won't this simple jpg display on the sample home page !? Any ideas ? Thanks

Look in site admin > system information page for any yellow ! or red X such as on uploads/ uploads/images as your permissions may need to be tweaked...

It all looks ok. The only RED is due to my config.php being too wide open. A few yellows around versions and other environmental bits, but only green ticks alongside the pathnames/permissions for uploads/images etc. See below.

Re: Fresh install won't even show images in cmsms sample page....
Curiously, a work colleague (who is far more literate in the ways of the website than I) has looked at CMSMS 1.8.1 on linux on the SAME provider as me - and coincidentally, we have reached the same point as each other - our sites are just not serving images - even in the admin console. If you take the path to an image into a browser window, it is an error 500. The images appear to be in the right place, the paths set, and the permissions ok.....!

Then it is obviously not a CMSMS issue, and you should contact your host.If you take the path to an image into a browser window, it is an error 500.

Re: Fresh install won't even show images in cmsms sample page....
If I empty my .htaccess files, it all works fine; I understand my host (fasthosts.co.uk) limit what these can be used for....
