[SOLVED] weird stuff happening on home page

Post by handcoded »

Hi

My web site design is finished, validated and just awaiting content so it is very frustrating that I can't see why the search does not work on the home page but works on all other pages and why my custom jquery news scroller on my homepage fails when clicking a news article with a read more link yet this works on every other page that has a similar news box and my main news page.

I'm running the web site in a sub folder at present so I tried hosting it on another domain where it could run from the root folder but the problem persists. Turning mod_rewrite off makes no difference either.

Can someone please help me   ???

Apologies  :o I should also state that I am using version 1.7.1 of CMS MS and that this is a fresh install.

To replicate the error please do the following
On the top right hand side of the homepage please search for any word and you will see that a search is not performed but strangely this does work on all other pages. You will end up on the home page again. The template does not appear to be the problem but it looks as though the form action for the search requires a page name on the end for it to work properly and on the home page my search form action does not have this.

To replicate the news problem please do the following
On the home page underneath the testimonials on the right hand side of the page is a jquery news scroller which selects the 3 newest news articles and shows them 1 per slide. One of the articles uses the news summary where you will see a read more link which when clicked does not go to the news article. The home page id is 15 and any other id number works fine.

There is a news page under the about us section which works perfectly and all pages except for the home page has another news scroller which displays 2 random news articles per slide of which there are 3 slides.

I have been unable to work out what the problem is and would appreciate someone with a better knowledge of CMS MS than myself taking a few minutes to take a look into this. I haven't come across this problem before and have built quite a few web sites using the CMS MS platform.

Thanks  ;D

I am an idiot.
On the homepage I did not have a {content} tag but named content blocks and obviously this means that the search and news had nowhere to put its output.

I've now got some work to do tidying the homepage template up but at least everything is functioning as it should. After upgrading I tried to alter some content on the home page which bought up an error saying that no {content} tag could be found. It was then the eureka moment happened and I realised what a complete noob I had been.
