You are not even asking the right question. WebPlus is a template based offering. It does not require, and cannot use CMSMS. You need to look for a hosting company instead. Stay away from templates if you have enough knowledge http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/User_Handbook/Installation/Requirements to use a content management system.

I do not know where you get the idea that Serif WebPlus is a 'template based offering'. OK, there are examples supplied but they customisable, or there is no need to use them at all. WP is design oriented rather than code lead. The code can be altered and added to. It will also output html files. I know WP reasonably well, been using it for over 7 years.

Had this made any difference to your point of view as to weather or not CMSMS can be used?

According to this page http****serif.com/webplus/ it is an all in one web building system, which is almost the same as CMS Made Simple, sort of, now if your asking if the templates made with it can be used in cmsms then yes, you would have to put them in and change them to have the tag calls in them but...

for sanity's sake it's a website creator, it creates pre-made-template-based websites. it does not create templates for use with cmsms. it does not need cmsms. it cannot work with cmsms. stay away from template-based websites.

and don't blame me that "templates" has dual meaning now. it may mean godaddy-like template based sites, and it may mean a template for cmsms. two completely different things.

My understanding of a 'template' is a fixed website design not readily or easily altered, least ways not within the operating system, that is plugged in to software (hosted or PC) then populated with content.

On the other hand, WebPlus is similar to NOF and Dreamweaver. These programs are designed to create websites in their entirety.  The only problem with WebPlus, and this takes me back to my original question, there is no features that include CMS in the software.

I suppose I could rephrase my question as:

Will CMSMS work with a website design created independently from it? 

From the replies I have had so far there seems to be a misunderstanding, or a difference of opinion about the question and/or software. So, unless I hear to the contrary I am going with the YES IT CAN.

Yes if you are talking about just using the template it makes, but you will have to convert it to be used in CMS Made Simple like any other XHTML/CSS template...

CMSms is a complete standalone content management system.  It does not need, nor can it work as a child or parent of another content management system.

If you have an existing template/design created in any other system (coded by hand in CSS, tables, DW, PhotoShop, etc.), it can absolutely be converted to be used as a page template within CMSms.  CMSms does not limit you at all with regards to layout, styles, design, formatting, etc.  The only limit is your skill and imagination.

Programs like you're talking about let people who don't know any code build websites.  They will always be somewhat limited because of that, in that both look-and-feel and functionality will be constrained.

CMSMS is not for the same audience.  Basically, you have lots more flexibility, but need to know some HTML and CSS and be willing to learn a bit of Smarty.  A bit of PHP and JavaScript wouldn't hurt either.  It's basically for web developers to use to build web sites for customers.

CMSMS allows a web developer to build a custom site rapidly, and template it so customers can easily update it in the sense of adding new pages and editing content and whatnot. 

If you know HTML and CSS and are willing to learn some Smarty, CMSMS might be for you.  Otherwise, probably not so much. 

If you don't code and don't like the online web builder you're using, I'd recommend Dreamweaver to you.
