Is there a way cmsmadesimple can be used for only news and article publishing?

Post by Chuky »

Is there a way cmsmadesimple can be used for only news and article publishing? I currently use a news and magazine publisher for this site http://www.businessdayonline.com . I believe the software that i used there has the same block and templating idea with cmsmadesimple. I was wondering if this can be achieved with a little more tweaking. News and article publishing software is in high demand . The cms software that i used for the site is quite good but its a bit costly for me now.So if one can get something like that but cheaper ,or opensource(smiles) , it would be great. Please let me know what u think

I haven't tried this ... but I've looked at your site and I think, it should be possible (with some tweaks).

The popular CMS for these purposes is Textpattern.  Personally I don't think it's good for well structured web sites, but for a news based web site it seems to be more appropriate.

who writes the articles, someone that can get online and publish?
that looks like a bunch of news summaries which can each be styled to show only what you want,,, 1 for just article titles as links,, 1 that plus short summary,,those plus some morelinks,, just a bunch of news blocks.  yep can be done.

Yes Mark . And not forgetting blocks for categries as links too . I think cmsmadesimple has the same block and templating system . Coupled with cmsmadesimple's html_blob/globalblob, one can get a well structured news/magazine publishing site. I believe You guys in this forums can do this. Am watching this space  :)

I am running both - Textpattern and CMSMS and by now there are only little features that Textpattern offers which are not available for CMSMS. However I must admit that I prefer CMSMS over Textpattern ever since the new MenuManager has been released. If there were more blogging features like comments, moderated comments, etc. I guess CMSMS would be a good blogging software as well. But maybe I haven't been digging deep enough into the forge. ;)

I have just uploaded comments 1.5 beta 2 with several bugfixes, please try it out and let me know how it works for you.  It has mail notifications and an admin area to edit and delete comments.

Yes, the new version has an optional captcha feature, which explains the size of the release  ;)

Somehow I knew it must be CAPTCHA. :(

Sometimes I hate accessibility because you can not use CAPTCHA and other stuff then and now I am forced to find a different solution. Maybe I will combine FrontEndUsers and Comments then. *sigh*

Yeah, you could use FrontendUsers, and Comments wrapped inside some custom content tags.
