Version History

Post by geediu »

Hi friends,

Is there are version history feature on the horizon? It's super cool to be able to go back to the previous version of a page if one makes a mistake and save the page, overwriting stuff etc.

Or make it so that when one clicks on the save button, it takes the person back to the main Pages screen but it actually doesn't save the page. On the Pages screen, now there will be a link called "Pending update" and the person has to click on this link in order to make the newly-saved page active.

I have seen versioning with the Reason Content Management System. and I have also seen a custom-built CMS which a customer of mine uses that has the "Pending update" feature.

Thanks,

It's a real shame that this functionality isn't given higher priority and put into the 1.x release schedule. We've had to turn to Joomla and SilverStripe to bid for numerous projects in the last year, simply because page version history is expected functionality and companies think it's too risky to launch their sites without it.

My company would consider bribing someone to make this happen. That may not be ethical or in the spirit of open source software, but, meh... we're a commercial organisation and it would solve a problem.

Paying for required features isnt bribing ;)

It is quite common in open-source to pay developers to make requests happen (earlier). The thing with open-source, is then, that the solution will be available to others as well.

Agreed, there are plenty of developers for hire. Just because something is open source, it doesn't mean nobody can profit off the venture.

So on that note, I'd also consider contributing financially for this functionality.

There is a module around Archiver, which stores changes to content etc...

This module doesnt work with 1.7.1 with GCB's, but in 1.8 this is fixed.
