Google maps and other modules permissions

I tried several things but can't change permission (CMOD) on files of some modules.

I want to change a English file into a Dutch one but can't change the permission of the file.
I used Filezilla and WSFTP.

In the Google maps module is a file called: GoogleMapAPI.class.php There are some English items I want to change.
After changing I can't write this file back because of the permission of this file.

Can somebody help me?

This is not a CMSMS issue.

Part of the requirements of using a CMSMS is having a basic understanding of how file ownership, and permissions work on a *nix server.

Google is your friend.
