[Solved] Site not looking right in IE

Post by Sarmorrow »

Hi Folks,
Thanks for all your help with the first site I made, much appreciated.
I'm now working on another one, for my business and although it looks brilliant in Firefox, it's messed up in IE.
The site is here: http://ethicstrading.com/cms/index.php

I have some screenshots:

(bottom part of the screen)

How do I fix it?
Plain English and step by step instructions please...
Thanks
Sarah

IE8 - which is what I have on my pc here, but I never think to use it so I hadn't checked it until someone else pointed it out.
I prefer Firefox.

I'll have to look into this, you have to remember that template was built before IE7 was even a twinkle in Bills eye, all we had to contend with is ie6, which works fine, oh and there is a fix for the menu in IE7, the links have room around them so it's hard to get to second level ;)...

I have always tested templates in all the most current browsers, now I do like 7 or 8 different browsers, back then it was only 2...

Well, not solved for that theme really.
But I've switched to a basic wore frame theme and that does a similar layout and I'm now sorting the colours and stuff to look how I want it - and it works in IE8!

So, a solution of sorts.

wireframe2colwnews is the theme/template name.
Results can be seen here: http://ethicstrading.com/cms/index.php and it doesn't distort in IE8. I checked before I started playing!
I've got a peculiar grey line that appears in firefox but not in IE8 but it's not a huge problem really. I'm still quite pleased that I've managed to change the look and feel to how it is there now.

Ah, just realised - the theme that was messed up in IE8 (first post screen shots) was orangegreysghadow and the new one, wireframe2colwnews, are both yours aren't they?

Yes, all the wireframes are mine but are old, I have redone them and will redo the shadow one also, I have the newer versions if you want I can send it/them to you...

The first 5 are cleaner versions, the last 3 are real lean, they are actually the same template/html with css changes to hide containers to make it 1, 2, or 3 columns...

I would love a fixed version of the orange grey shadow at some point as that is the look I prefer over all others.
Cleaner versions of the wireframes would be fabulous also.
However, while I can cope with installing an xml theme, I am easily confused by a zipped one that needs unpacking!

I most never use zip, don't see the need for it...
