Hi there
I set up cmsmadesimple on local machine - xp and works ok.
Installed on server
http://www.scribesrus.net and after installing ok with the open basedir flag displayed.
I can use admin and that works fine but wen I go to the web site I just get a blank screen.
I found that there was a directory setting in the .htaccess that was causing the problem and nothing to do with open_basedir. This was setting the root directory. Having stepped through the code. I realised what was going on.

Re: open_basedir restriction
This is very straightforward.
We don't support open basedir.
Contact your host and have them fix it.

Re: open_basedir restriction
After the path
/var/www/vhosts/scribesrus.net/lib/misc.functions.php you have installed cmsms in your root.
Your allowed dir for public is
/var/www/vhosts/scribesrus.net/httpdocs/
Not sure if this helps.....

Re: open_basedir restriction
Hi there
I installed cmsms in httpdocs. I have asked my hosting company to set open_basedir off.
I looked thoughout the forum and troubleshooting. It maight be helpful in the docukmentation to say either set this in php.ini or ask your server to change the settings.
