[SOLVED] No styles showing in TinyMCE
Hello,
I have a problem that is driving me mad, and I really hope that someone can help solve it for me.
I have just installed 1.7.1 (Escada), seemingly with no issues at all, except when I try to edit content on the pages with the TineMCE editor.
I have no styles showing in the window at all, and the "Styles" dropdown menu doesn't dropdown. This is a major issue, as I need my client to be able to see what they are doing as they go along, as they have no web design knowledge at all, and wont be able to get the content looking right if they can't see it.
My , tags should show up styled, as should the text, and some background images for certain elements too, but nothing is showing in the TinyMCE window except default black text. (I am using class dfeinitions instead of ids)
I've searched the forums as extensively as I can, and although I've come across a couple of posts discussing the same/similar problems, nothing seems to help.
I have ensured that my stylesheet is set to "screen" only.
I have made sure it is attached to the template (The page displays correctly in the browser, so it must be attached properly)
It may be to do with the fact that TinyMCE wasn't displaying at all until I checked the "use Static Config" option in the advanced settings for TinyMCE, as recommended to by another post in the very helpful forum.
It's driving me totally mad, so I'd be VERY grateful indeed if someone can sort this out for me.
Many thanks in advance for your time,
Nathan

Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
From my understanding tiny doesn't do styles like background images, etc. it may show colors of text and a few other simple things like that, but yea it only uses classes in the style drop down, you may have to hit it in the center of the drop to get it to show them or wait a few seconds, I've had this happen to me before..

Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
Thanks to ReplyTomk3 and to Dr CSS,
Unfortunately, not solving the problem. I've already reset the settings to the default, and all that did was to make the editor disappear completely, causing me to have to re-set it to use static config, before it would show again. (I've also reinstalled the TinyMCE folder in the modules folder of the root, AND uploaded an version of TinyMCE from an earlier version of CMSMS that I know works well on another of my sites, both with no affect whatsoever!)
As for the dropdown menu, that's only part of the problem: Not only am I not able to get the dropdown menu to drop down at all, (thereby meaning that I can't style anything without going into the html - fine for me, but certainly not fine for my client), but worse, none of the styles are showing in the editor window at all, so that where I have links styled to show at a certain size, and in a certain font and colour, they don't show up like that at all.
It's so terribly frustrating. I've set up several sites with CMSMS before, most recently with 1.6.6 "Bonde", with absolutely no problems at all. this doesn't seem to want to play at all.
Thanks again for your suggestions, chaps, I really appreciate your time, but can you or anyone else come up with any other ideas?
Best wishes to all,
Nathan

Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
Update: Help still needed:
I've tried deleting the whole installation, and replacing it with 1.6.6 "Bonde", which I am currently using on another site with no problems, but the same issue is happening.
When that didn't work, I've tried re-installing 1.7.1 "Escada", and the same issue is still ongoing. Any ideas?

Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
If you have to use static config option I would look into the system information page to see if you have something wonky on that server, any yellow ! or red X means you do...

Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
Hmmm. So it seems I DO have some yellow exclamation marks in the system info page. As follows:
disable_functions in PHP (disable_functions):
dl, passthru, proc_open, proc_close, system, allow_url_fopen
Any ideas if that might be causing the problemss, and if so, what do I need to do about it? Baby language please - I getting in WAY over my head.
Once again, I really appreciate your time and knowledge!

I'm also having this problem. Running 1.7.1 on HostGator. I have another client whose site is on a similar HostGator plan, but they're using 1.7, and there are no TinyMCE issues there.

Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
I just solved my problem! Try changing the permissions on your modules folder from 777 to 755. Then disable static config. Worked for me. Reference: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... _next=next

Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
You're welcome! Would you mind putting [SOLVED] in the thread title, so others can find the solution, too?
Re: No styles showing in TinyMCE
I've posted all the steps needed to get tiny to show once it goes wonky in quite a few places and one of the steps is setting the permissions to 775 or 755...
