Using CMSMadeSimple for News Only

Post by Stephen49 »

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with a quick question.

I see that CMSMadeSimple has a news module but I'm not clear on whether this can be used as a stand alone or whether you have to create your whole site in CMSMadeSimple?

You'll have to excuse me if this is a really stupid question - I'm not a developer, but I'm a web designer - hence my confusion on this subject, I'm a bit new too all this stuff.

I've got no need for a fully content managed website, I just want to be able to have my news section as a CMS so that it can easily be updated and managed.

Is CMSMadeSimple what I'm looking for or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

you're barking up the wrong tree... ;-)

CMSms is a full-blown content management system, and News is one component.  Without the rest of the CMS, I am unaware of any (reasonable) way to use the News module.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree.  CMSMS is a website content management package.  News is just a small portion of it, designed to be used within a CMSMS website, not apart from it.

Thank you both for your quick reply, I had a feeling that was going to be the case.

I don't suppose anyone knows of something far more basic that will do the job of a stand alone news module?

It's a long shot I know, but I've been searching for ages with no joy and my lack of development experience is seriously hindering my progress so I thought I'd come somewhere where people actually know what they are talking about who might be able to put me out of my misery :)

For a news management system/database that uses 'tags' to call the data to your existing website - you could try Coranto

Be aware that it is perl not php and uses flat files (although there is an MySQL add on).
CMSMS 1.11.1
PHP Version 5.3.3-1ubuntu9.7
MySQL 4.1.22
Apache 2.2.16 (Ubuntu)
Linux 2.6.35-22

what is the "rest" of the site setup with? static html or some other server-side app? (php, perl, python, ruby, java, etc, etc).

I've actually built sites that use nothing but the news module, pages only consist of {news} tags with other parameters...

So I would say no your not barking up the wrong tree, just not explaining yourself clearly...
