Still working out some kinks as far as being able to order stuff, but it's up... purple.star-bear.com
I'm working on making it a "store" so there's still things missing, but it's the first time I've been able to really work on my own site - hubby usually does most of the work. I love CMSMS because it's simple enough that I can figure out how to do stuff (or at least play carefully to see what does what...).
Any opinions/advice? Remember, this is my first site, so be gentle!!
My site - Handmade Baby Blankets
Re: My site - Handmade Baby Blankets
Ok, I'll try to be gentle.
You make little blankets, right? square pieces of fabric with a nice texture and judging from the photo's a contrasting border/trim. (probably there's a lot more to it than that, but bear with me) Yet you mazke a website with little square panels with text on them, but they don't look like the blankets you make.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to have some decoration on your site with the same texture? like the dark purple borders you have now, maybe replace them with a textured background and have the contrasting border touch on the sides of the text panels. or have it the other way around, give the textpanel a border like you put on the blankets. Anything that will put the feel of you blankets across would do.
The header is a bit empty, and personally I can't make a quick connection between that hook and the blankets you make with them (but maybe that is because I am male...).
I suggest you make a picture with a recognisable blanket in the background and your purple hook with some yarn in the foreground. You could use some nice caligraphy fonts for the name too. All those graphics should lead the casual visitor to only one thought: this site is about ... (crochet baby blankets?). If you think your visitors need more convincing, reinforce that tought by repeating that tagline in the title/h1 of the page.
Actually creating the tiles to be used as background and borders might be some new tricks to learn, but I'm sure you can if you have made it this far.
btw the photo's are a nice effect.
