My requirements are ... Will this CMSmadesimple be suitable - thank you

Post by moonroot »

I'm implementing an online repository of articles, several thousand of them on a low traffic site and I need the following features:

1. Ability to list PDF files (as direct links) along with (links to) HTML content.

2. A tag based search feature and the ability to keyword tag pdf files (not essential but would be very welcome)

3.  Low learning curve for installation and configuration (I'll be doing it and I have a very low frustration threshold sadly - I'm a joomla refuge)

4. Categorisation: I'll need around 12 categories for the articles, some articles will belong to more then one category.  Is this possible without having to duplicate content.

User permissions and extra features not important. Only one tech savvy admin person will be using this. Also, any recommended books ?

Thanks

No problem

not sure if CMSms supports this, as I've never needed this feature, so I've never paid attention

lots of refugees here... welcome!

No problem, but you won't be able to use the core News module, as it only supports one category per article.  Use CGBlog instead.  Designed for blogs, but very flexible and lots of people are using it as a "news" module.

Haven't read either one, but two that I am aware of are:

Thanks jmcgin51, Thats really helpful.

In particular the advice on using the blog module to allow for multiple categorisation of one article. If anyone knows of a pdf/html article tagging feature that would be very useful.

Also, has anyone here had experience with expression engine, how does it compare ?

Thansk
