BrowserTools Plugin - version detection

I have been testing the BrowserTools plugin and discovered a problem with the 'version number'

I am using cms 1.6.6 on a Mac and testing with Safari and several versions of Firefox.

BrowserTools returns the correct version for Firefox but not Safari. For Safari, it returns the webKit number. As a result, the version number returned for Safari is 525.18 rather than 3.1.1. This obviously presents some problems.  The browser.ini file, if installed on your server, is one possible solution but that is a lot of text searching as the file is running about 300k.

The second question is the length of the version number. For example, I am using Firefox 3.5.7 for this post. However, for my cmsms purposes, a version number of 3.5 would have sufficed. You might want to consider an option permitting a truncation of the version number.

A quick update. I found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safari_version_history a chart cite the Safari version number with its associated WebKit number.
